St. David’s Foundation announces $73M in funding to support access to care and affordable housing initiatives

End of year awards bring the 2025 community investments total to more than $130M — the largest in the Foundation’s history

Today St. David’s Foundation announced investments to support the safety net system and affordable housing initiatives in Central Texas. With these new grant awards, this brings the Foundation’s cumulative 2025 community investments total to $133.5 million – the largest in Foundation’s history.

“Our grantees across Central Texas work every day to deliver care and stability in a rapidly changing environment,” said Edward Burger, President & CEO, St. David’s Foundation. “This year’s grantmaking initiatives reflect our commitment to standing with community, strengthening the safety net, expanding access to housing, and investing in the systems that help individuals flourish and communities thrive.”

Support for Safety Net

Central Texas’ primary safety net plays a critical role in ensuring health care is accessible for the uninsured and underinsured. We know affordable, accessible care remains out of reach for many in our region affecting their ability to address health concerns when they arise. St. David’s Foundation is committed to increasing access to timely, responsive care.

As part of this commitment, the Foundation is announcing an investment of $64.4 million over 3 years to safety net clinics across the region to ensure access to primary care, dental care, maternal health, and mental health services for communities experiencing the greatest health needs. The focus is on ensuring that the safety net remains robust, adaptable, and capable of meeting the needs of our most vulnerable populations

Funding allocations were informed by three key factors including patient volume, community need, as measured by the Foundation’s Health Equity Index, and the size of the uninsured population each clinic serves.

The Support for the Safety Net funding opportunity is designed to advance critical outcomes, including:

  • Maintaining access to care for uninsured Central Texans as the uninsured population continues to grow
  • Sustaining overall Foundation support while reallocating funding to more accurately reflect local need and clinic capacity

These investments reflect insights from the Foundation’s Housing + Health 1.0 grantees, align with learnings from long-standing funding partners, and respond directly to evolving regional housing needs.
