Health Talk Radio Show Launches to Educate and Uplift Central Texas Community

Program developed in partnership with Austin Community Radio (KAZI 88.7 FM) and St. David’s Foundation
Health Talk, a new podcast and radio program, produced as a collaboration between Austin Community Radio – KAZI 88.7 and St. David’s Foundation, launched this week. The show, hosted by Dr. Desmar Walkes, family physician and Austin/Travis County Health Authority, will feature interviews with experts and community leaders, community-driven content, and a focus on health and wellness to educate and inform Central Texas listeners.
Each episode of Health Talk will dive into a variety of health topics, ranging from preventative care and chronic disease management to mental health and caregiving. As host, Dr. Walkes brings a wealth of experience and expertise, as she engages with a diverse range of local health professionals who will address timely, relevant health topics that can help listeners live healthier lives.
“We are committed to providing accessible, relevant, and community-focused health information, and Health Talk is an exciting new way to connect with the diverse populations we serve,” said Dr. Walkes. “Through this program, we hope to provide tools and knowledge that empower individuals to take charge of their health.”
Founded in 1982, Austin Community Radio is a listener-supported, non-commercial station serving Bastrop, Caldwell, Williamson, and Travis counties. Its mission is to reach and provide educational programming and information with special emphasis on media access for the African American community and other groups previously unserved by existing radio stations in Austin.
“I am proud to have dedicated more than 40 years of my career to KAZI and have a deep commitment to ensuring our listeners receive news and information they can trust,” said Marion Nickerson, KAZI Outreach Coordinator. “Health Talk represents an exciting new resource our audiences can tune into and hear from local experts about health issues that matter to them the most.”
You can listen to Health Talk by tuning into 88.7 FM in Central Texas or streaming the episodes on YouTube.

We are excited to partner with KAZI to bring this listener-driven content to the community in such a meaningful and effective manner. Through Health Talk, we aim to educate, amplify community voices, connect listeners to trusted health resources, and create actionable conversations that advance health equity in Central Texas.
