2024 Grantmaking: Announcing Recipients of Housing + Health and Investing in Impact Funding Opportunities
$12.9M in grant funding awarded as part of Housing + Health and Investing in Impact
In July 2024, St. David’s Foundation announced a second round of open call funding opportunities to support organizations doing vital work to increase the capacity and access to affordable housing and to organizations serving in an intermediary role to foster connections between the Foundation and communities with the greatest health needs in Central Texas. The focus and goals of these funding opportunities were informed by insights from previous work, conversations with our community and grant partners, and alignment with the strategic plan, Pathways to Health Equity, as the Foundation works to advance health equity across Central Texas.
The Foundation received more than 200 initial letters of intent across both open calls which were reviewed for eligibility and alignment with the goals of each opportunity. Following the initial review process, 93 organizations were asked to submit a full application. The Foundation has awarded 26 grants across both calls to advance health equity in Central Texas.
“The open call funding opportunities this year have allowed the Foundation to test news ways of working that are aligned with the goals and aspirations of our new strategic plan,” said Regan Gruber Moffitt, VP of Community Investments, St. David’s Foundation. “We are inspired by the work shared with us through this process which reflects a deep commitment to community voice and serving communities facing the greatest needs.”
The Housing + Health: Funding for Planning and Predevelopment open call awarded $8.4M in grants focused on increasing Central Texas’ capacity to provide safe, healthy, and affordable housing options for low-to-moderate households in Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson counties. A total of 18 grants were awarded to organizations, 45% of which are organizations receiving a grant from the Foundation for the first time. The grantees awarded funding as part of this open call represent a broad array of nonprofit organizations and units of local government engaged in planning and/or predevelopment to strengthen Central Texas’ affordable housing capacity. The cumulative impact of the predevelopment projects as part of this funding opportunity is expected to provide over 800 new affordable housing units for low-income and historically marginalized populations. The planning grants are designed to create and build momentum of local and regional affordable housing efforts, particularly in the Foundation’s more rural areas such as Taylor. This funding is centered on the Foundation’s commitment to advancing affordable housing as a platform for health, particularly when projects are designed to include community input and leverage local assets of both place and people. Awardees received an unrestricted one-time grant.

The Investing in Impact: Community-Directed Giving through Intermediaries open call awarded $4.5M in cumulative grant funding through eight grants. These investments will support the capacity of intermediary organizations to re-grant Foundation resources through a community-directed and participatory process that reflects the needs, voices, and priorities of communities with the greatest health needs. One-half of the funded organizations support multiple counties (rural and urban) in the Foundation’s Central Texas service area. Our hope is this geographic representation has the potential to foster a richer dialogue on regional impact. This allocation of funding is aligned with the Foundation’s goal to equip communities to achieve their own health priorities with the objective to support community-directed giving through initiatives and institutions to advance health equity. Awardees received an unrestricted two-year grant.

The Foundation will continue to evolve its grantmaking approaches and funding strategies to ensure that our investments and partnerships are equity-driven and community focused. We recognize that this work is both important and complex, and we remain committed to continuing to infuse an equitable process into our grantmaking efforts and across our funding mechanisms.
Looking ahead, we will be sharing information on future funding opportunities for next year in early 2025. We encourage you to visit this page for updates as they are announced. Funding will be available through a variety of mechanisms including open calls, invitations, and rolling funding.
